ASTM A36 vs A307 - Portland Bolt

Dec 14, 2007 · ASTM A36 is a steel (raw material) specification, while ASTM A307 is a fastener specification. In other words, once you take A36 round bar and cut it, thread it, bend it, forge a head on it, or otherwise process it and turn it into a fastener, it becomes an A307 bolt.

All Thread Rods - Portland Bolt

Technically, all thread rod made from A36 steel should be ordered to a fastener specification such as A307 Grade A, A307 Grade B, or F1554 Grade 36. The project is Design-Build, and the contractor is requesting the use of ASTM A36, Grade 50 rods, which I'm assuming are more readily available (thus cheaper). In looking at the AISC Manual, the tensile strength for A36 steel varies from 58-80 ksi. Further, the yield strength is specified as 36 ksi.

Oct 14, 2009 · OK, how about A307/A36 threaded rod, is it weldable? If not does anyone know of any threaded rod that is weldable? Thanks very much for responses. Corrosion will not be a problem, interior exposure and it can be painted or cold galvanized. I need to attach a 1" diameter threaded rod to a 3/4" A36 plate with 15k of tension.

Nov 07, 2011 · "pullout strength", which may be greater than tensile strength of the male fastener, will theoretically be pi x PD x % thread x length of engagement x shear strength of material, for a vee thread.. But it will vary a lot with cut vs rolled (formed) thread, grain orientation of material, and Young's modulus of male threaded part.
