the application environment, COR-TEN’s weather resistance is nearly 4~8 times that of ordinary steel. Weather Resistance COR-TEN is paintable in the same way as ordinary steel. In addition, even if a painting defect should occur, COR-TEN suppresses the progress of rust area and, accordingly, prolongs

Temperature limitation for Corten

Jan 08, 2011 · Dear SirPart of the answer to your question involves strength at temperature and what is the intended design life of the component. In general, the oxidation rate of Corten should not be especially high at 900F. However, we wonder why you have specified Corten as opposed to a plain carbon steel. Cor-Ten A properties at 850 F ? - Metal and Metallurgy

Jul 26, 2005 · The best approach may be to assume SA-36 steel properties for your first cut, since the Cor-Ten is a copper-bearing, carbon steel plate. It will be somewhat conservative assuming SA-36 material properties, however, I would expect similar behavior of the Cor-Ten plate as SA-36 carbon steel plate at elevated temperature.

Steel properties at low and high temperatures

Steel Properties at High Temperatures Creep is the slow plastic deformation of metals under a constant stress, which becomes important inThe soft metals used at about room temperature, such as lead pipes and white metal bearings. Steam and chemical plant operating at 450-550°C. Gas turbines working at high temperatures.

Behaviour at high temperatures is another difference between A and B. Corten steel A retains its full strength and stiffness (yield strength, modulus of elasticity) up to 540°C. For Corten steel B this limit is at 425°C and for carbon steel at 400°C.

Steel properties at low and high temperatures

Where temperatures lower than -100°C or where notch-impact stresses are involved in equipment operating below zero, it is preferable to use an 18/8 austenitic or a non-ferrous metal. The 9% Ni steel provides an attractive combination of properties at a moderate price.

Corten Steel Kloeckner Metals UK

Cor-ten is a high strength, low alloy, weldable structural steel possessing excellent weathering resistance. It may be used to advantage in painted or unpainted condition. The steel owes its weathering resistance to the formation of a protective oxide coating which seals the surface against further corrosion.
